Initiated by ISES, the International Solar Energy Society in 1996, EuroSun has been held on a bi-annual basis in cities all across Europe. Recent EuroSun conferences have taken place in Rapperswil, Switzerland (2018), Palma de Mallorca, Spain (2016) and Aix-les-Bains, France (2014).
In 2020, EuroSun took place as a fully virtual conference for the first time.
EuroSun 2022 is jointly organized by ISES - the International Solar Energy Society and the IEA Solar Heating and Cooling Programme, IEA SHC and will be hosted by the Department of Solar and Systems Engineering at the University of Kassel, Germany.
Over the years, EuroSun has become a well established and highly successful conference for the solar community not just accross Europe but also welcoming guests from all around the world.
At EuroSun 2022, we welcomed 480+ solar researchers, experts, industry representatives, students and practitioners from Europe and all around the world. The programme featured dedicated technical sessions on the conference themes, high level keynotes by expert speakers, workshops, two technical tours and more. The organizers were especially pleased to offer a range of programme highlights to our young attendees such as a special Masters Course in Solar Energy and dedicated networking opportunities with senior experts from research and industry.

Since 2022, the EuroSun conference are organized jointly by ISES, the Solar Energy Society and the IEA SHC Solar Heating and Cooling Programme, IEA SHC.
ISES, was founded as a non-profit UN-accredited membership NGO in 1954 and has a long history of being the trusted global advisor on renewable energy. For over 60 years, the members of ISES have undertaken the product research that has helped the renewable energy industry to grow. ISES, through its knowledge sharing and community building programs, helps its global membership provide the technical answers to accelerate the transformation to 100% renewable energy and thereby achieve the following vision: a world with 100% renewable energy for everyone used wisely and efficiently.
Key activities of the society include:
The Solar Heating and Cooling Technology Collaboration Programme (SHC TCP) was established in 1977, one of the first programmes of the International Energy Agency. The SHC TCP's work is unique in that it is accomplished through the international collaborative effort of experts from country members, sponsor members and the European Union.
The IEA SHC's vision is to through multi-disciplinary international collaborative research and knowledge exchange, as well as market and policy recommendations, increase the deployment rate of solar heating and cooling systems by breaking down the technical and non-technical barriers to increase deployment.
Key activities include:
EuroSun 2022 will be hosted by the Department of Solar and Systems Engineering of the University of Kassel, Germany.
Since 2001, the Department of Solar and Systems Engineering has been a section of the Institute of Thermal Engineering at the University of Kassel. Its predecessor, the Solar Energy Research Group, operated for ten years out of the University of Marburg.
The leading supervisors of the Department are Prof. Dr. Klaus Vajen and Dr. Ulrike Jordan.
The research and development activities of the department are concentrated in the field of Solar Thermal Engineering. More specifically, the department specializes in the development, experimentation, and mathematical modelling of solar thermal energy systems and their components. The research group consists of a dedicated and innovative team with about 25 employees.
The University of Kassel is a young, modern and vibrant university with fields of expertise in nature, technology, culture and society. With more than 23,000 students and approximately 1,800 scholars, among them more than 300 professors, the University of Kassel is one of Germany’s mid-sized universities. It plays a key role in the development of the northern Hesse region, but its profile also attracts many students and scholars from across Germany and abroad.
